Baby crib bumper pads are probably one of the most common and well known baby products out there in the market. Many parents are buying these for their kids in the effort of safeguarding their precious little ones especially while they are on their respective cribs.
But are baby crib bumpers really safe to se? Or does it pose more danger to our kids, something that most of us may not be aware of? Lately, a lot of health agencies in the country and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) awareness groups are recommending that parents not enforce the use of baby crib bumper pads, mentioning that its use may pose more danger to their children. They may be putting their kids at higher risk for suffocation when they use baby crib bumper pads.
Baby Bumper Sets
For those not in the know, baby crib bumper pads were used in cribs which has slats that are widely spaced. Its been used to prevent the baby's head from being trapped between the slats. But those are for older style cribs, now, the United States and Canada has passed a standard that makes sure that all cribs being sold in the North American continent has slats that are close and evenly spaced so babies' heads won't fit through it. If that is the case, then why do most parents till use baby crib bumper pads? Mostly, its because of aesthetic value: they probably like how it looked against their kids cribs, or how its colors are coordinated with everything lese in their kids nursery.
Other sets of parents are worried that their baby's arm or legs might get stuck between the crib sides. Some fear that their baby's heads might hit the sides of their cribs while sleeping, which in turn might result to bumps, bruises or other injuries. Parents need not worry about these happening though, as health authorities who have conducted studies and research already stated that the chances of a baby sustaining serious injuries if it somehow manages to put his or her arms or legs through the crib slats are pretty low. If it does happen, the baby's normal reaction is to attempt to remove her arms or legs from the slats by herself or cry or produce some noise to alert somebody for help.
Make sure that your baby's crib has met the quality standards for cribs so you no longer have to use baby crib bumper pads. Compared to the possible danger threats your baby might continuously face while using it, its best to just remove it altogether, after all, nothing comes first before your baby's safety.
